The T20 U.S. takes forward in 2026 the Think Tank 20 (T20) policy research network of policy researchers, scholars, policy-makers, and policy practitioners, producing and widely promoting practical and timely knowledge products for all G20 policy-makers. This informal research network is co-chaired, in 2026, by the Stimson Center, Quincy Institute, and Brookings Institution.

Under the banner of “Harnessing Knowledge and Ensuring Continuity for Better Policymaking in Uncertain Times,” the T20 U.S. is committed to continuing the work on major T20 legacy issues, including sustainability, inequality, international financial architecture and collective security reform, human rights, pandemic prevention and public health, migration and refugees, gender and youth empowerment, disabilities, humanitarian action, food insecurity, and peace.

In particular, the production of timely T20 U.S. knowledge products is driven by five thematically focused Workstreams (with each Workstream preparing around five “Policy Notes” for G20 policy-makers) and a diverse Advisory Council (with the Advisory Council preparing another 20-25 “Policy Solutions” and related “Incubator Ideas”).

The culmination of these two main tracks will be showcased from 18-19 November at the T20 U.S. Summit in New York, in hybrid format hosted by the Ford Foundation Center for Social Justice, with anticipated sessions held across the street too at United Nations Headquarters. As per custom, the gathering aspires to produce a final T20 U.S. Communiqué for wide public promotion in the run-up to the G20 Summit from 14-15 December 2026 in Miami. The T20 U.S. Summit will highlight the implications of this work for the U.K.’s 2027 G20 Presidency, supporting continuity into the next G20/T20 cycle. Convening and producing myriad knowledge products over the past fifteen years, the T20 policy research network was established in 2012, initially in support of that year’s G20 Mexico (click here for an overview of past T20’s).
