On October 3 and 4, Plataforma CIPÓ hosted the “Global South Policy Dialogue – Promoting Climate Action and Tackling Inequalities: the role of the G20” at the National Historical Museum in Rio de Janeiro, in partnership with Instituto Clima e Sociedade (iCS), Global Challenges Foundation, Global Governance Innovation Network, G20, T20, and the City Hall of Rio de Janeiro. The event brought together parliamentarians, representatives from think tanks, Brazilian government and international organizations, and civil society members to discuss the crucial role of the G20 in promoting more inclusive solutions to the climate crisis.

One of the main objectives was to address the fight against inequality, taking into account the needs of developing countries, as well as to discuss and strengthen the role of regional parliaments in advancing climate action and just transitions. Debt crises and fiscal constraints in the Global South were also discussed. Notable attendees included María Fernanda Espinosa, President of the 73rd United Nations General Assembly; Maria João Rodrigues, President of the Foundation for European Progressive Studies (FEPS); and Chantal Line Carpentier, Head of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), and Felipe Hees, Sous Sherpa of the G20 Brazil at the Ministry of Foreign Relations.

Additionally, scholars and representatives from countries such as South Africa, Brazil, China, the United Arab Emirates, and India debated priority issues on the global agenda, including the importance of civil society and the most affected communities' participation in addressing the climate emergency.
