Join co-facilitators Jamaica and Netherlands for multistakeholder consultations on the Declaration on Future Generations.

Summit of the Future Strategy Session

📆 January 18 📍Geneva, Switzerland

Join us for a multistakeholder roundtable strategy session (in-person) on making the most of the nine months toward the Summit of the Future. Co-organized by the Stimson Center, UN University Centre for Policy Research, and other Geneva-based partners, this session will chart new opportunities for civil society to further engage both the formal Summit of the Future preparations and related UN Civil Society Conference on the Summit of the Future (see below).

A Pact for the Future and New Agenda for Peace: Creating Opportunities for Better Collective Security

📆 February 6 📍Switzerland

Co-hosted by the Permanent Mission of Switzerland to the United Nations and Other Organizations in Geneva, Stimson Center, Geneva Center for Security Policy, and the Geneva Peacebuilding Platform, this high-level roundtable will offer fresh insights and concrete recommendations in support of Chater 2 on "International Peace and Security" and Chapter 4 on "Transforming Global Governance" of the Pact for the Future in advance of the 2024 Summit of the Future (drawing ideas and inspiration from the Secretary-General's New Agenda for Peace).

The Africa We Want and the UN We Need: A Regional Dialogue for the Summit of the Future

📆 March 4-6 📍Abuja, Nigeria

More than ever, and in the run-up to the September 2024 Summit of the Future, African perspectives and innovation priorities need to be heard in policy debates on improving the performance of today's global institutions (including the UN system) and African regional institutions (including the African Union, ECOWAS, and other sub-regional organizations), so as to better address the critical issues of sustainable development, peace and security, climate governance, democratic and digital participation, and human rights and humanitarian action. Building on nine previous Global Policy Dialogues, this multistakeholder dialogue will strive to:

  • To convene leading policy researchers, practitioners, and advocates from Africa and around the world to debate and recommend specific regional and global institutional, policy, legal, normative, and operational innovations that could inform the agenda—and help to raise the ambition—of the Summit of the Future, giving special attention to African perspectives and innovation priorities.
  • To establish a new platform for African policy researchers and advocates to critically discuss and advance policy research on “What Africa Wants” and the type of relationship the Continent needs to have with the UN and international financial institutions.
  • To strengthen African Union, ECOWAS, and UN collaboration, including through the New Agenda for Peace, Global Digital Compact, and Declaration on Future Generations.

UN Civil Society Conference on the Summit of the Future

📆 May 9-10 📍Nairobi, Kenya

In collaboration with civil society actors, the United Nations Department of Global Communications will hold the 2024 UN Civil Society Conference from 9 to 10 May at the UN Office in Nairobi, Kenya (UNON). The Conference aims to ensure multi-stakeholder participation in the Summit of the Future preparations, providing tangible space for civil society to contribute ideas and recommendations to feed into the negotiations of the Pact for the Future. Additionally, it offers the United Nations and the international community a chance to plan the way forward, advance the goals outlined in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, and create a future where no one is left behind.

This DGC-led Town Hall bought together various stakeholders, such as civil society organizations, UN entities, and UN member states, to start the conference planning process, including the launching of the nomination process to select conference co-chairs and establish conference planning sub-committees.

Academic Council on the United Nations System Annual Meeting & Global Policy Dialogue

📆 June 20-22 📍Tokyo, Japan

Under theme of "Global Governance and Sustainable Development: Revitalizing Research to support Multilateral Solutions," ACUNS Annual Meeting 2024 aims to provide a platform for collaborative dialogue on the links between sustainable development on the one hand, and global universal values of human rights and human security on the other, in keeping with the UNU's mission of providing a "bridge between the international academic community and the United Nations system.”This year's ACUNS AM will feature a Global Policy Dialogue on “Advancing Human Security through a New Global Economic Governance Architecture.”
