ENVIRONMENTAL GOVERNANCE: From Stockholm+50 to the Summit of the Future

Concept noteProgram and Flier

Stockholm+50 was an important moment in the road to the Summit of the Future. As stated in the OCA, it was “an opportunity to redefine humankind’s relationship with nature and to achieve a healthy planet for the prosperity of all.” This upcoming dialogue will build on the momentum generated at Stockholm+50 and find ways to bring the visionary recommendations from that space into the Summit of the Future. It will be chaired by Daniel Perell, Co-Chair of the Coalition for the UN We Need, and initial remarks will be provided by Amb. Magnus Lennartsson of Sweden and Ms. Ligia Noronha, UN Assistant Secretary-General and Head of UNEP, New York Office.

The OCA report, with its 90 plus recommendations, represents a significant opportunity to strengthen multilateralism and the United Nations. The summary of thematic consultations outcomes from the meetings of the General Assembly on the OCA demonstrate both a willingness and a need for further consultation. It is in this spirit that the series is being held: to ensure a meaningful and sustained space for dialogue among a diversity of actors on specific OCA-related issues and proposals.

This dialogue is part of a monthly, multi-stakeholder hybrid series which will ultimately serve as an input to the Summit of the Future in 2023. A short summary of prepared remarks and unattributed notes of the discussion will be distributed to all participants following each meeting (notes from the first meeting can be found here).
