This year's edition of the Doha Forum policy forum, on the theme of “Transforming for a New Era”, welcomed more than 200 speakers to debate some of the world’s most challenging issues,  with a focus on four key areas; Geopolitical Alliances and International Relations, Financial System and Economic Development, Defense, Cyber and Food Security, and Climate Change and Sustainability.

The Stimson Center co-organized with the Doha Forum an experts workshop at the Forum, featuring several GGIN members, on An Agenda for Climate Governance and Green, Broad-Based Recovery headlined by Mary Robinson (Chair of The Elders), as well as a dialogue featuring students and faculty at Hamad Bin Khalifa University in Doha on the recent Stimson-Doha Forum collaboration Building Back Together Greener: Twenty Initiatives for a Just, Healthy and Sustainable Global Recovery. The event discussed the challenges facing green and equitable development in a (post)-pandemic world, highlighting challenges including intergenerational injustices, the injustices of different development pathways and the equitable collaboration required between the Global North and Global South.

Additionally, convenor of the Climate Governance Commission, Maja Groff, spoke on a Doha Forum panel with Bill Gates on Addressing the Effects of Climate Change Today: Adaptation Policies for a Climate-Resilient Future. Finally, Maria Fernanda Espinosa, Co-Chair of Coalition for the UN We Need and President of the 73rd Session of the General Assembly, and Ambassador Michal Mlynar, Permanent Representative of Slovakia to the United Nations, spoke with Richard Ponzio, Director of Stimson’s Global Governance Justice and Security Programme, and Nudhara Yusuf, GGIN Facilitator, in two featured Doha Forum podcasts (soon to be shared here).
