From 22-23 September 2024, the United Nations will convene the Summit of the Future at the start of the UN General Assembly. Through its "Pact for the Future'' outcome document and related instruments (e.g., a Declaration on Future Generations, a Global Digital Compact, and the New Agenda for Peace), the Summit is expected to reach agreement among the UN's 193 Member States, with the support of civil society partners, in the five major areas of: 1) Sustainable Development & Financing For Development; 2) International Peace and Security; 3) Science, Technology and Innovation and Digital Cooperation; 4) Youth and Future Generations;
and 5) Transforming Global Governance. In support of this effort, a UN-Civil Society Conference will be convened, from 9-10 May in Nairobi, to build awareness, generate civil society input, and coordinate with capitals and key stakeholders toward the Summit of the Future. To update interested organizations in International Geneva on opportunities for civil society to further engage both the Summit of the Future preparations and related UN-Civil Society Conference, the Geneva Centre for Security Policy, the Geneva Peacebuilding Platform, UN University Centre for Policy Research, and the Stimson Center convened a ninety-minute in-person informal briefing at the Geneva Centre for Security Policy.
