Abstract

Deforestation has advanced significantly in several regions of the world in recent years, especially in the Amazon. At the same time, most countries have not met their targets for reducing polluting gas emissions agreed under the Paris Agreement .

Part of this destruction is associated with international trade and the growing demand for products from threatened forest areas and biomes.

These are some of the issues addressed in the policy brief “Legislations on due diligence and international cooperation: challenges and perspectives for socio-environmental protection”, which the CIPÓ Platform launches on October 17th. Authored by researchers Viviana Porto, Maiara Folly and Renata Albuquerque Ribeiro, the publication compares the regulations of Germany, the United States, France, the United Kingdom and the European Union to prevent the import of products associated with environmental crimes and brings a series of recommendations.

The launch takes place in Brasília, during the workshop “International cooperation for the Amazon: paths to implementing the Declaration of Belém”, organized by CIPÓ, in partnership with the Amazon Cooperation Treaty Organization ( ACTO ).
